Comandante X25 Trailmaster - Engineered For Adventure

The new lightweight and robust Comandante Trailmaster X25 hand grinder designed for outdoor use, with the same grind performance (grind result and required strength) as the Comandante C40 thanks to the brilliant NITRO BLADE® burr set inside.

NITRO BLADE® is the result of years of dedicated R&D and world’s first heptagonal conical burr developed specifically for specialty coffee.

The polygonal body is moulded into a stable single piece using cutting edge techniques.

The new housing is made of "QTP®" - a high-performance technopolymer into which a strong, long-chain polymer matrix is woven. This material, which behaves like a technical supercomposite, was originally developed for mechanical and plant engineering; it is currently used in the automotive industry for bearing and transmission components. QTP® is safe in contact with food and water.

The X25 has a slightly smaller diameter than the C40, which is more comfortable for people with smaller hands.

Bean hopper capacity:

  • C40 = 40 - 50 g
  • Trailmaster X25 = 25 - 30 g

Quality grinder, built strong, but too much static

After grinding for 3 years with Porlex Mini II wanted to upgrade, so Porlex will be kept for the travel, and the new grinder stays at home and when needed I will be able to grind for bigger batches of coffee form Moka. Event though there is a huge choice of the grinders branded and manufactured in China, and many of them with the very nice and top reviews, I was leaning to the grinder made in Europe. Was choosing between Kinu M47, Mazzer Omega and Comandante. I did not like the original Comandante for its body being too thick, so this new travel version looked as very attractive option. Other two options were more expensive, and Mazzer grinder despite its wonderful design and look has also received some mixed reviews. N.B. that my review is based on grinding with the new Comandante X25 just for 3 days. So first impressions: grinding is faster than with the Porlex for the same grind size, all materials of the high quality, crank handle very comfortable, grounds container attachment very clever. However, I did not expect so much static charge in the grinder. Coffee grounds stick very much at the bottom of the burr and to the grounds container, especially the fine (dust) part. Even with the setting on 13 clicks from 0, the x25 produces noticeable amount of dust. With this regard the Porlex was and is the top grinder. I did not try the Chinese alternatives (like timemore or 1zpresso grinders), but for comandante x25 to play in this league of similar properties grinders its price has to be more competitive for the quality they give.
