The Decaffeination Process:
Dichloromethane, also known as Methylene chloride, is a chemical used to remove caffeine from green coffee beans and tea leaves. In this process, the coffee beans are directly exposed to the solvent, which helps extract the caffeine. Afterward, the solvent is evaporated due to its low boiling point of 40°C (104°F). This means it can be easily removed, leaving only tiny, safe amounts of the solvent on the finished roasted coffee.
